ITANAGAR, Dec 13: The Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and the Arunachal Press Club (APC) issued a joint statement on Wednesday strongly condemning the restriction of media during the swearing-in ceremony of Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) members at Raj Bhawan.
Journalists were barred from covering the event as they were kept outside the Raj Bhavan gate by security personnel, citing a lack of instructions to allow media coverage. The media bodies alleged that neither an official invitation nor communication was sent by the state government for journalists to cover this significant event.
The statement questioned the secrecy surrounding the ceremony, stating, “Not inviting journalists to the constitutional posts’ swearing-in ceremony and conducting the event in a hush-hush manner itself is highly questionable.”
