Training of community volunteers on disaster response under AAPDA MITRA underway

Itanagar, May 2: A training of Community volunteers on disaster response of Capital Itanagar under Upscaling of AAPDA MITRA Scheme was organised by the Department of Disaster Management at Training Centre Lekhi today.

The Deputy Commissioner Capital Talo Potom while speaking and interacting with the volunteers of Capital said that the training was the need of the hour and urged them to fully utilise the technicalities of training and to make themselves capable to handle the community’s immediate need in the aftermath of a disaster and to enable them to undertake basic relief and rescue tasks during emergency situations.

The Director, Department of Disaster Management Komkar Dulom informed that upscaling of Aapda – Mitra is a scheme implemented by the National Disaster Management Authority( NDMA) under Ministry of Home Affairs, GoI in order to improve local capacity of disaster response across the country. 

The scheme aims to provide the community volunteers with skills that they would need to respond to their community’s immediate need in the aftermath of a disaster and to identify suitable individuals in disaster-prone regions who can be trained to be the first responders in times of disasters.

The training is a 12 days program wherein the students will get trained by SDRF/NDRF etc theoretically and practically and will be conducted in the eleven districts of the State.
