Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) Arunachal Pradesh, hosted a joint Press Conference at the Institute of Distance Education (IDE), RGU, to mark the 3rd anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Distinguished speakers from prominent institutions across Arunachal Pradesh participated in the event, which unveiled a series of accomplishments and future initiatives.
Honourable Vice Chancellor Prof. Saket Kushwaha took the stage to introduce the weeklong activities planned by all departments of RGU to commemorate the occasion. Prof. Kushwaha proudly presented the strides made in implementing NEP 2020 at RGU over the last three years. With dedication, RGU successfully embraced all 18 verticals of NEP 2020 and introduced four-year degree programs in both research and non-research aspects of undergraduate programs, set to commence from the upcoming 2023-24 session in university campuses and affiliated colleges.
The implementation of the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) at RGU was met with overwhelming success, with an impressive 99% of students already registering for the program. Additionally, RGU is on the cusp of launching a dual degree program, further elevating educational opportunities for its students.
Praising the support from the Arunachal state government, Prof. Saket Kushwaha expressed gratitude for the provision of essential facilities amounting to 50 crore INR, enhancing the learning environment at RGU.
Dr. NT Rikam, the Registrar of RGU, shared plans for the introduction of four-year undergraduate courses in various science disciplines, including Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Statistics. In the Arts discipline, four different subjects will also be introduced, broadening the educational horizon for aspiring students. To facilitate UG course admissions, RGU is conducting the RGUCET for this year and will shift to the CUET mode of admission from the following year.
Prof. M Muralidhar, Director of NERIST, emphasized the importance of teacher orientation, the multiple entry and exit system, and the language aspect of NEP 2020, fostering holistic growth in the educational landscape.
Prof. Oken Ligo, Chairman of the NEP 2020 Committee at RGU, unveiled a host of activities to celebrate the three-year milestone of NEP 2020 in RGU. Notably, the upcoming 2nd Akhil Bhartiya Shiksha Samagam on 29th and 30th July 2020, graced by the Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri. Narendra Modi in a virtual mode, promises to be a momentous event.
Kendriya Vidyalaya, NERIST, shared its dedication to NEP 2020 by adopting the Creative Critical Thinking (CCT) approach, aimed at enhancing foundational numeracy and literacy skills while nurturing problem-solving abilities among learners, setting a commendable example for educational institutions.
Prof. Otem Padung, Finance Officer at RGU, disclosed plans for the Four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) in Arts category, set to be introduced along with 41 other universities across the country, promising a bright future for aspiring educators.
