Tuting Memba Welfare Society advances vision for progress in 2nd general conference

Tuting, Jan 12: The Tuting Memba Welfare Society (TMWS) recently concluded its 2nd General Conference at Kopu Village under the Tuting Circle, drawing members from across the state for a gathering. At the heart of the discussions was the proposal to rename Memba to Tshanglha, underlining the society’s commitment to preserving and celebrating the unique cultural identity within the Tuting subdivision.

Education took center stage with the designation of Gelling School as the Community-Based Organization (CBO)’s model school, signaling TMWS’s dedication to fostering educational opportunities within the community.

Addressing critical issues, committees were established to regulate both community and individual land right systems, showcasing TMWS’s proactive stance on responsible land management and ownership practices.

A poignant moment during the conference was the launch of the Lhafan (flag) on January 10th, 2024. This ceremonial event, deemed auspicious in accordance with the Buddhist calendar, stands as a powerful symbol of unity and cultural pride for the Memba/Tshanglha community. Notably, for the first time, the society unveiled its own Lhafan, designed and described by its IPR Secretary, Tenzing Nima.

Before the conference, TMWS President Pema Dorjee Khochi actively participated in the Druba Dubchen celebration (puja) at Gelling Village. Conducted by four Great Tikus and lamas, the spiritual ceremony bestowed blessings upon the thousands in attendance, setting a positive tone for the subsequent conference proceedings.

The 2nd General Conference marks a pivotal moment for TMWS, outlining a comprehensive vision for community development, cultural preservation, and sustainable progress in the Tuting region.
