NMOPS state unit served 15 days ultimatum for restoration old pension scheme for its employees

ITANAGAR, Jun 14: The National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) Arunachal Pradesh state unit on Wednesday served fifteen days ultimatum to the state government for restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) in the state.

This is actually against the  welfare of the government employees who were appointed on or after 1 January 2008, the state government had implemented New Pension Scheme (NPS) by compelling the employees to opt for the new scheme, said NMOPS vice president Tamchi Taniang, while addressing the newsperson in a press conference held at Arunachal Press Club (APC).

The implementation of NPS has entirely broken the social and financial status of the retired employees of the state, he added.

Expressing concern over the grievances of around Twenty-nine thousand government employees, who have been enrolled under NPS, Taniang said, despite rendering lifelong service for the welfare of the state government, NPS was implemented. whereas other states such as Jharkand, Chattisgarh, Rajasthan and Himachal etc have already banned the NPS and restored OPS, added Taniang.

“More than Rs. 100 crores are being invest to the National securities Depository Limited (NSDL) from the share of subscriber employees of NPS every year, which is not necessary being a tax-free state,” said Taniang, suggesting state government to use the same amount for the state welfare activities by restoring OPS.

Pointing out the demerits of NPS, that Ten percent deduction of employee’s salary is mandatory and the system is controlled and coordinated under the corporate sector NSDL (Indian central securities depository based in Mumbai) which has nothing to do with the affairs of state of Arunachal Pradesh and it’s employees, NMOPS said, under the OPS, General Provident Fund (GPF) is made as per wish of employees and it is controlled by the state government.

They also termed the NPS as a kind of share market investment of the employee’s contribution, where the fate of the employees and their family depends on the market growth and downfall. He said.

Informing, the organisation had already submitted a series of representation to the state government on many occasions, NMOPS further threatened to initiate democratic movement in terms of tools & pen down strike that would be followed by availing mass casual leave and state-wide protest rallies to meet their demands.

We are not demanding anything new but it was already in existence and discontinued, so the state government under the leadership of Pema Khandu need to understand the genuine grievance of the its employees as they always claim that they are always for the welfare of everyone and so it is high time and it would be a testing time for his government that whether they reintroduce the old pension scheme or not for the greater interest of its employees and lakhs of family members dependent on them. The NMOPS leaders added.
