JDU Urges NIA Probe into Former MLA Yumsen Matey’s Assassination; Leaders Condemn the Tragic Incident

ITANAGAR, DEC 17: The Janata Dal (United) has called for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into the killing of former MLA Yumsen Matey, who was assassinated by a suspected extremist group near the Indo-Myanmar border on December 16th. The party president, Ruhi Tagung, condemned the incident, emphasizing the need to bring the perpetrators to justice for the sake of democracy.

The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt. General KT Parnaik, and Chief Minister Pema Khandu expressed deep condolences, with the Chief Minister assuring swift investigations by the Arunachal Pradesh Police. Home & Border Affairs Minister Bamang Felix echoed the sentiments, vowing a thorough investigation and standing in solidarity with the mourning community.

Former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki lamented the loss of a dedicated personality, urging proper investigation and emphasizing Matey’s legacy of compassion and service. The recent surge in attacks on leaders raises concerns, prompting calls for enhanced security measures and collaborative efforts between state and central governments to address underlying issues.

Tirap SP Rahul Gupta confirmed the registration of a case and detailed ongoing investigations, including post-mortem examination and intensified security measures. As the region grapples with fear and uncertainty, leaders advocate for comprehensive strategies focusing on dialogue, mediation, and socio-economic development to foster lasting peace.
